New in Basecamp: Add names and images to pings
Pings are an essential communication tool — if you need to collaborate outside of a project or discuss something more privately, send a ping. But when you have a lot of pings with a lot of people, it’s hard to tell conversations apart. A single name and a few avatars are all you have to go by. You have to open each thread to figure out who’s in which one.
Wouldn’t it be better if pings were easier to identify? We think so.
Now in Basecamp, you can name your pings and add images. To get started, click the list of names in the ping header. Give your ping a name, add an image, or both. Then, save your changes.
Anyone in the conversation can change the ping’s name or image. Basecamp shows the latest updates in the message thread.
To remove an image, click the trashcan and save. To remove a name, leave the field empty and save — the ping label will return to individual names.
Names and images appear in the Pings menu, along with the number of people within each thread. The images and names show in the New for you section, too.
Adding images and names to pings helps you find the threads you’re looking for faster. Now, you can quickly reach out to the marketing team without mistaking it for the company book club.
This video shows how it works.
Enjoy!
