New in Basecamp: Link previews, a better date picker, and turn off reminders

Hey there! 👋 We've rolled out three improvements to make your experience on Basecamp even better.

Link previews in Campfire and Pings 💬

First, we added link previews so you can have more context about what you're about to click. On desktop and the web, when you paste a link in a Campfire chat or Pings, you'll see a preview with a title, description, and image when they're available. Previews work with public links, not links to things that require authentication, like a support ticket.

If the preview doesn't add much, you can delete it before you post.

A new and accessible date picker 🗓️

Next, we have a new date picker to make it easier and faster to add new events and due dates. If the event is far in the future, jump ahead with dropdowns to select the month and year.

This short video captures the feedback behind the improvement.

The new date picker is also a big improvement for our customers using assistive tech.

Here's what we heard from one user:

This will make such a big difference to my day-to-day job because multiple times a day I have to say to people, "Can you put the date in there for me?" because I can't put it in. And now, I won't have to, which will be a huge weight off my mind. It will just also mean that I can stop feeling like I'm being a burden to my colleagues. So, thank you very much. That will make a huge, huge difference to what I can do on a daily basis.

Turn off event and assignment reminders 🔕

Finally, we added the ability to turn off reminders! Basecamp reminds you about upcoming events as well as assignments that are due soon. These are important, but we know that some stay on top of things in other ways. Maybe you keep the assignments page open throughout the day or get meeting reminders from your calendar app.

Now, you're able to turn off reminders for upcoming events, assignments, or both.

Click your avatar, then Change your notification settings, and you'll see the new options. If you turn them off, we'll still notify you about new assignments and events to keep you in the loop.

This has been one of the top requests. Here's a quick look at how your feedback helped make Basecamp better.
