New in Basecamp: To-do List Templates, Groups, and more
We’re kicking off 2023 in style with a bunch of new stuff. These are all live in your account today. Let’s jump in!
To-do list templates
To-do list templates are perfect for tasks you do again and again, like releasing a new feature, podcast episode, article, or mobile app update. This top request means a lot less time spent on repetitive tasks. Here’s how it works.
Adding a to-do list template to a project
In the to-do tool for your project, click New list, then Use a to-do list template.
Next, select the template you want to use.
That’s it! The list will be added to your project and you can get on with your day—a huge time saver.
Creating to-do list templates
Follow the same steps to add a new template. After clicking Use a to-do list template, click Manage To-do list templates at the bottom. There you can create a new template or edit an existing one.
Everything you can do in a to-do list, you can do with a template, including adding to-do groups and assigning due dates (relative to when the list is added to your project.) You can also assign tasks to people, so they’re automatically looped in when the list is added to a project. That option was a recent addition to project templates — here’s the announcement if you missed it.
Anyone on your account can see and edit to-do list templates, just like project templates.
Groups
Want to add all of the designers to a project? You shouldn’t have to type every name every time. With groups, you don’t have to! Just start typing "Desi...", select Designers from the autocomplete list, and we'll drop in each designer. No need to manually type everyone’s name anymore.
Admins can create groups in Adminland by clicking Manage groups.
Once a group is added, type the name in any person field, like when creating an event or assigning a to-do, and we’ll populate it with everyone in the group. You can also @mention groups in messages and Campfire.
When you tag a group, we’ll only pull in the people who are currently in that group. If you add someone to the group later, they won't be added to places where the group was previously used.
Require Two-factor Authentication (2FA) for your account
Finally, you can now require that everyone (apart from clients) uses two-factor authentication to sign in to your Basecamp account. This is a great way to make your account more secure.
If you’re the account owner, visit Adminland and click Require two-factor authentication.
First, we’ll make sure that your own account has 2FA so your access isn’t affected. Then, you’ll see who isn’t using 2FA yet. You can email them from there and they’ll receive a link to set it up. We’ll walk them through every step.
Keep in mind that once this is enabled, users won’t be able to access your Basecamp account until they set up 2FA.
We hope you love these additions to Basecamp. Thanks for being a customer!
