New in Basecamp: Limit chat history

Now you can choose how long Ping and Campfire history is retained for your organization. Here’s how it works.

By default, Basecamp stores transcripts of all Ping and Campfire chats for as long as you keep your account. That’s still the the case today—nothing has changed.

What’s new is you can limit how long transcripts are kept. In Adminland, Admins have the option to change chat history settings.

On that page, you can choose how long to keep transcripts for Pings and Campfire chats. If you choose a shorter time period, we’ll ask you to confirm the change, then immediately delete earlier transcripts. Changing your retention period will potentially delete a significant amount of chat history, including attachments, so proceed with caution.

After you change the time period, Basecamp will permanently delete past history on an ongoing basis.

When Ping or Campfire history is limited, you’ll see a special icon near the top of the conversation. Hover over it to see how long transcripts are retained.

We hope these new data retention options are helpful. Thanks as always for being a customer!
